The birth of this second wine has at least three reasons behind it: The desire to test ourselves with a grape we have never used before, Merlot, the desire to offer the consumer a product that can be appreciated when younger and finally the opportunity to be able to further select the grapes to be used for Sassicaia.
Mario Incisa, creator of Sassicaia, drew inspiration from his great-uncle Leopoldo Incisa della Rocchetta. His son Nicolò, administrator of Tenuta San Guido for forty years, drew it from Guidalberto della Gherardesca, his great-great-grandfather. Nicolò Incisa della Rocchetta. The latter, who lived in the early 19th century in the Bolgheri area, was a pioneer of modern agriculture, also famous for having planted the famous Viale dei Cipressi. Intense garnet red wine with ruby reflections. On the nose the bouquet is rich and intense with notes of ripe red fruit, dried flowers and spices of black pepper, tobacco, coffee and chocolate, on a background of minerality. On the palate the wine is soft, enveloping, elegant, full of personality, with good structure. On the finish it reveals a fresh acidity and ripe tannins, with a long persistence.
